What kids actually care about
Kids don't care about the lobby. What makes a family trip work is room to spread out, a kitchen for easy meals, and something fun to do between the big outings that doesn't need a ticket. Look for separate bedrooms, a pool or water nearby, and space to run around outside.
Location matters too. If Silver Dollar City is on the list, staying close means you can come back for a midday break before anyone melts down.
A family day at Bavarian Village
Most kids make a beeline for the waterfall pool, which is open 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with lounge chairs and shade for the grown-ups. Then there's the swim dock on the lake, fishing off the dock and s'mores at the community fire pit (bring your own firewood). Deer and wild turkeys wander through regularly, and younger kids love spotting them.
There's no lifeguard at the pool or the dock. Kids under 12 need an adult at the pool, and we recommend life jackets around the dock.
Which place fits your family
- Parents with one or two little ones: an A-frame. The kids get the loft, you get the queen bedroom downstairs. Sleeps up to four.
- A family that wants its own rooms: a rooftop Deck House, with two queen bedrooms and two bathrooms.
- Two families: a three-bedroom Cedar Cabin with a full kitchen.
- Grandparents, cousins, everyone: Kim's House or Hotel California.
Rainy day? Head to Tribesman
Our sister resort, Tribesman Resort, is also on Indian Point and is built for kids with energy to burn. It has an indoor pool, a free game room with air hockey and classic video games, and a wooden playground with swings and a slide. It's open year-round, too.
